Tilly completed her PGCE specialising in Mathematics at the University of Bristol in 2021. Since then, she has worked in both schools in the UK and Internationally. Tilly understands that Maths is one of the best subjects when it clicks and her students understand what they need to do, but one of the worst when it seems like nothing makes sense.
Tilly knows that for some students, watching a lecture style explanation on how to do maths works. But many students need more; they need to be involved in the learning directly. Tilly encourages her students to really think about what they’re learning, this not only deepens their understanding of Mathematics, but also means they’re much more likely to remember what they have just learnt.
Tilly believes that it is this style of learning that has helped many of her students become confident in their own abilities in Mathematics. These students have then gone on to gain top grades, or had the push needed to achieve a level they might not have believed they were capable of.
