Stephanie is a charismatic, empathetic and dynamic tutor with seven years teaching experience. She attended Leeds University to study English Language and Literature, leaving with a 2:1 and went on to complete a Masters in Creative Writing and a PGCE in English Language and Literature. Stephanie taught for six years at a school judged as ‘Outstanding’ by Ofsted where she worked as a curriculum leader for Key Stage 5 English, Key Stage 4 English and as Second in Department. Through these roles, she received extensive training and knowledge on the curriculums for both GCSE and A-Level and has a very firm grasp of what students need to do to achieve and how they are best supported in doing so. Following this, she taught small groups at a centre for students temporarily excluded from education, ensuring that with positive guidance and adaptive teaching methods, gaps in learning were filled.
Stephanie has taught Years 7-13 and has achieved excellent results with her exam classes, supporting them in making significant progress. Stephanie has also taught media and film studies and is able to prepare students for the 11+ and 13+ common entrance exams. Whilst teaching, Stephanie furthered her knowledge by completing an Outstanding Teachers Programme and GCSE, iGCSE and A-Level examination and coursework standardisation. She was also involved in giving feedback to an exam board in regard to changes to the curriculum, guiding other teachers on these changes. Further to this, she mentored trainee teachers, offering advice on how to teach outstanding lessons and achieving the very best with their pupils.
Stephanie is innovative in her approach and personalises her teaching to suit the individual, finding ways for them to progress academically and feel confident in their abilities, whilst fostering a love for the subject. She is a mother of three and steered her children through periods of home and hybrid learning during the pandemic. She has been a writing mentor on youth writing programmes in New York and also writes creatively herself, with poetry and flash fiction recently published. She has completed courses on screenwriting, the short story form, poetry interpretation and routes to publication and is up-to-date with trends and changes in young adult fiction. She is an avid reader and loves sharing book recommendations with her students, from classics to the latest releases.
