Richard is a creative teacher with over twenty years of experience in working with young people in an educational setting. In the last five years he has developed his practice as a personal tutor, focusing on students sitting their GCSE and A level exams. He is familiar with all papers set by the AQA, Pearson Edexcel and IGCSE exam boards. He has successfully coached pupils from City of London School Boys, Westminster School, Tiffin School, Kingston Grammar School, St Helen’s School Girls, Wallington County Grammar School and Kingston Academy. Richard is also available as a proofreader and mentor for undergraduates writing their final year dissertations.
Richard has a particular interest and skill set in working with students who have English as a second language. As an educator, he has over ten years of experience working specifically to support pupils with special educational needs, including students with dyslexia and those on the autism spectrum.
Richard is a graduate of Bristol University, where he achieved a first class honours in Theatre, Film and Television. Richard’s secondary schooling included state school education as well as private international school education. His diverse educational experience gives him access to a variety of learning styles and cultural references that he is able to employ when tutoring students. He recognises that cultural background is often a factor when learning how to get the best out of young academics. His approach is person-centred. He begins with an individual student’s point of interest in the subject and then expands their engagement in order to teach the whole curriculum.
Above all, Richard knows that rapport is crucial and that the tutor-student relationship is paramount. He believes that he has the inter-personal skills required and can always find the right balance between professionalism and compassion to bring the best out of any student.
