Profile

Polly is a recent Classics graduate for the University of Oxford. She was awarded a 1st in both Honours Moderations and her Finals. After her Mods results, where she came 4th in the year, she won the De Paravicini Prize for the top performance in the Latin papers. She studied Latin (A*) and Greek (A*) for A Level along with History Pre-U (D1) and completed a history and classics-based EPQ (A*). She was the top academic scholar at Oundle School and achieved 11 top (9/A*) grades at GCSE. Polly loves both the language and the literature components of Classics and she believes that she can help students excel in Latin and Greek by focusing on the core grammatical principles and learning about the logic of the language rather than learning solely through memorisation, as well as helping them develop a genuine interest in the literature by understanding its themes and how style enhances meaning. She has tutored a range of subjects and has also undertaken weekly volunteer teaching and tutoring for the past 5 years, which has helped her to explore different teaching methods for different pupils and learning styles. For example she has recently helped pupils achieve top grades in Maths and History GCSEs, while she is also an experienced science tutor. She has also had success at tutoring for 7+, where she excelled at helping students become more confident and getting them to engage with the tests. She knows that tutoring is an individual process and aims to find the specific method of communication which enables each pupil to truly understand the concepts through a tailored teaching approach.
