Profile

Matt attended Trinity School of John Whitgift in Croydon with an academic scholarship, before doing a BA in Ancient History at the University of Bristol (attaining first-class honours) and then an MA in English Literature at University College London (attaining a distinction). At Trinity School, he achieved straight A*s at GCSE. At Bristol, he was the winner of the Momigliano Prize, after securing both the highest overall degree mark and dissertation mark in his 120-strong cohort. Matt has extensive experience tutoring. Over a six-year tutoring career, he has helped students ranging from aspiring Oxbridge candidates to those with special educational needs to achieve their goals. Matt considers his greatest assets as a tutor his ability to listen, his ability to empathise, and his ability to adapt; he is able to see things from the perspective of his tutees and tailor his approach to their needs accordingly. A professional business writer, prize-winning essayist, and author, Matt is especially adept at teaching and honing writing skills – he is an ideal choice for pupils seeking to improve their essay writing, creative writing, and/or university applications. He also has a great track record preparing candidates for the 11+ and 13+ (particularly at St. Olave’s, Whitgift, and his alma mater, Trinity), as well as in teaching Maths up to GCSE and English up to A-level.

Testimonials

Matt has been absolutely fantastic as a tutor for J. He put him at his ease in a practical, work focused way that J really responds to, giving clear tuition that helped James understand maths concepts that were difficult for him.  He also boosted J’s confidence just when he needed it.  J was terrified of maths when Matt first  started tutoring him.  He has now passed his functional skills and went into his GCSE with confidence.
