Louis read Politics, Philosophy, and Economics at the University of Exeter, has 3 As at A-level (Economics, Politics, English) and 9 A*/As at GCSE. He loves explaining new ideas to people when tutoring, but also knows how critical each mark can be, with tiny margins making all the difference between grade boundaries. Louis believes that the key to good results in Economics is to have a very thorough understanding of the underlying concepts. Most Economics graphs and formulae only begin to make sense with that knowledge in place, so finding creative ways to engage pupils with the concepts, from stories and metaphors to real-world examples, is critical. Politics is a dynamic and exciting subject, but curriculum requirements and exam boards can make it seem dry – so enlivening the teaching with relevant and recent examples boosts learning, as well as inspiring real engagement from the pupil. Tutorials will always be built around the specific needs of the pupil, achieving exam success by adding syllabus-specific content and tailored exam practice to reach the highest grades they can. Pupil engagement and focus on the agreed goals will be maximised, whether teaching is taking place in-person or online. Outside of tutoring, Louis runs a food startup making packaged cookies that are 50% made of nuts, to help tackle environmental and human health by getting people to eat more fibre, more healthy fats, and more sustainable protein.
