Though born in England and a native speaker, Jonathan completed his primary education in the South of France where he learnt French fluently. He then attended the International School of Nice for his secondary education to complete his IGCSEs and the International Baccalaureate where he discovered his love for literature. He earned a BA in English at Boston University before returning to England to gain his PGCE in English at Bath University. Jonathan has been a fully qualified English teacher since 2011, teaching English GCSE and A-Level in a large comprehensive school in North London as well as a small, private SEND school in South London. He was Head of English for five years where he helped shape the curriculum and plan event days and was Head of Key Stage 4 for two years where he dealt with pastoral aspects of education. He has been praised for his calm and friendly nature, for his good relationships with his students, for his creative lessons and strong subject knowledge. Jonathan has a deep understanding of English GCSE Language/Literature and A-Level Literature having taught it for many years. He has developed strategies to help learners tackle exams as well as reinforce their general English reading, writing, speaking and listening skills. He has tutored one-to-one EAL learners in France as well as in his current school while helping students individually in the classroom. Jonathan has had many years of experience working with students with a range of educational needs including dyslexia, ADHD, ASD, Down syndrome, as well as emotional and behavioural needs. Though he has stepped down from his managerial positions, Jonathan continues to teach French and develop schemes of work to continue inspiring students to love learning. Jonathan’s passions are literature and creative writing. He has written since the age of 11 and is currently completing his novel. He is an avid reader of the classics, science fiction, fantasy and graphic novels. His love for words and stories has helped him teach his students to appreciate the art of literature, to become confident in writing formal and creative pieces, and in analysing and discussing texts deeply and critically.
