Profile

Gus is an enthusiastic and dedicated tutor with 7 years of experience. He has tutored students from ages 7 to 18 in a range of subjects, consistently cultivating a strong rapport with the student, a relationship of trust with the parents, and a marked improvement in academic performance. He believes that tutoring is fundamentally about inspiring interest in the subject and confidence in one’s own ability, endeavouring to make his lessons both engaging and empowering. He has helped younger students gain acceptance to schools including Westminster, Dulwich College, City of London, Highgate, King’s Canterbury and Eton, via the 11+ and 13+ examinations. He knows first-hand how daunting this experience can be for students having undergone the process himself when moving from Dulwich Prep London to Westminster School via its scholarship entrance exams, appropriately named “The Challenge”. He aims to set the student’s mind at ease and provide them with the resources to approach the exams with confidence. In 2023, he helped a student gain a King’s Scholarship to Westminster School through these examinations. He has worked with older students to gain sixth-form places at Westminster, Tonbridge, Latymer, King’s College and Charterhouse. He has helped GCSE, IGCSE and A-level students to achieve significantly higher grades than they were originally predicted in English, Maths, History, Economics and the Sciences. He is experienced with the Edexcel, AQA, OCR and CIE exam boards. He has also worked with students who have withdrawn from conventional education for a variety of personal and academic reasons, acting as their primary teacher across a variety of subjects. This is an especially challenging and rewarding experience, due to the increased contact time and responsibility, which has added further depth to his tutoring practice. In terms of his own academics, Gus achieved 11 A*s at GCSE, and three A*s and an A at A-level, whilst attending Westminster School. He holds a first-class degree in Human, Social and Political Sciences from Trinity Hall, Cambridge, finishing 5 and 8 out of 149 students in his final two years. He was awarded the Bateman Scholarship by his college for academic excellence. He is equally comfortable tutoring in-person or online

Testimonials

Gus worked with my son in preparation for his Economics A level exam as he needed an A grade to meet his Uni offer. He enjoyed the sessions and found working through practice questions with Gus really beneficial. In the end, his grade improved from a B/C in his mock to an A and he’s now off to his first choice University.
