As a qualified teacher with a Master’s Degree in Comparative Literatures and Cultures, Carys has experience of face-to-face and online tutoring across the primary curriculum. Having worked in state and independent settings during the last five years, including London Prep Schools, Carys enjoys supporting pupils through 11+ and 13+ exams.
Carys believes firmly in the power of tutoring to build a child’s confidence. Not only do sessions aim to enhance subject knowledge and exam technique, but also nurture the curiosity and maturity needed to tackle papers independently and shine at interview. She adapts her tutorials depending on each pupil’s strengths and areas for improvement, offering detailed feedback and optional follow-up tasks to reinforce new concepts.
Carys has been a brilliant tutor for our son as he is preparing for his 11+ exams. Her bespoke lessons are a balanced combination of challenges, positive reinforcement, and always some fun. From the first sessions, Carys demonstrated an exceptional understanding of our son’s learning style and academic needs. Her ability to tailor each lesson to maintain his engagement and interest is truly commendable. She employs a variety of teaching methods and materials, ensuring that the learning process is dynamic and never monotonous. Carys’s patience and encouragement have significantly boosted our son’s confidence. She provides clear explanations and is always ready to revisit topics that he finds challenging. Her supportive approach creates a positive learning environment where our son feels comfortable to ask questions and express his difficulties.

Carys was incredibly patient and understanding of M’s learning style. She paid attention to how and what techniques worked best for M and her approach was highly individualised. Carys always praised M’s strengths and progress as well as challenging her and identifying her areas for development. My daughter’s confidence soared with Carys and for the first time in her life she began to enjoy maths. M’s SAT result was spectacular, and so different from what had been predicted at the start of year 6. Carys brought out the best in my daughter and it was a pleasure for us all.
