Profile

Alice is an empathetic, experienced tutor who is familiar with all the major GCSE English Literature and Language and A Level English exam boards. Alice especially enjoys working with students who have hitherto found English difficult, helping them to unlock a sense of competence in tackling the exam papers’ specific challenges as well as fostering a genuine enthusiasm for the subject. Her approach combines a practical focus on each exam board’s assessment objectives with a sharing of her own pleasure in, and passion for, language. It has been an immense privilege to have been able to ignite a similar passion for both reading and writing in students past.

As well as tutoring GCSE and A Level, Alice has plenty of experience in helping students towards their 7+, 11+ and 13+ exams, with previous students going on to gain places at City of London, Eton, Harrodian, Harrow, St Paul’s, Westminster and Wycombe Abbey amongst many others. With these age groups, she particularly enjoys identifying and discussing language techniques and sparking discussion of how and why writers use them – and how students might creatively deploy them in their own work, too. She understands the importance of making learning fun – that at these ages (and indeed at all ages!) reading and writing can and should be a joy not a chore.

Alice has a first-class degree in English from Cambridge, and is a writer and director for theatre.
