Tom is a highly engaging, motivated and empathetic tutor. He is a graduate of Oxford University and obtained 9 A’s at GCSE and 3 A’s at A level in English, History and Politics.
He has coached numerous tutees of varying ages and abilities with huge success and is considered a brilliant role model by parents of former students. Tom is hugely sociable and a brilliant communicator, this makes him a fantastic choice for short-term residential bookings. Tom holds our regular in-house training workshops to prepare new tutors for tutoring the 11+ and 13+. He is therefore highly adept at preparing students for these entrance exams, covering both Maths and English with ease. His former tutees have gained places at Dulwich College, City of London, Trinity, Alleyn’s, Emmanuel, St Dunstan’s, Whitgift, Colfe’s and Eltham amongst others. Tom also particularly enjoys tutoring History, Law and Politics at GCSE and A level.
Tom comments, “I have enjoyed tutoring a variety of subjects for over 6 years. My students’ success has derived from focusing on concepts and using them to explain why certain techniques work – rather than learning a long list of techniques that can’t be adapted and will most probably be largely forgotten. This is as, if not more important in technical subjects. Maths, for example, is often a student’s most frustrating or most rewarding subject – it’s been greatly satisfying working with students towards the latter position.”
He was an Admissions Rep whilst at Oxford University and a keen debater for the Oxford Union. Tom loves travel having wandered over five continents and is an avid sportsman, representing his university on the cricket pitch and the squash court.
I was simply blown away by Stephanie’s result in English. I remember vividly Stephanie’s insistence about not being able to “do” English.
You are a fantastic tutor and we are completely indebted to you. Thank you once again for your kind support. Stephanie has been fortunate to have benefited from your valuable time and wise counsel.
Tom Fenton is a marvellous tutor, striking a perfect balance of erudition, encouragement, judicious pressure, kindness and humour. His work with my daughter produced stellar results in the form of three scholarships; I can’t recommend him too highly.
