In order to secure a place at the University of their choice, students will choose their UCAS options and prepare for entrance procedures while busy studying A level or IB at sixth form.
Each year, Dulwich Tutors students aim for the best possible exam results, with a view to heading to Oxbridge or another Russell Group University. Because schools are rated on the number of Oxford and Cambridge places their students achieve, they are likely to have in place preparation and support to help with the UCAS application, personal statement, admissions tests such as the BMAT, written work or extended essays, and ultimately interview, if shortlisted. However, not every school has the staff expertise to support with University subject specialisms such as Medicine, Law, PPE or Philosophy.
Many Dulwich Tutors themselves have attended Oxford and Cambridge, and tutor for us alongside vocational careers or higher level study in Medicine, Journalism, Creative Industries or Politics. This leaves them exceptionally well-placed when it comes to the application and interview process, as well as the specific, realistic career insight and guidance students may need. They are likely to have first-hand insight as to which of the many colleges that make up Oxford and Cambridge should be applied for, and are likely to know lecturers or Oxbridge faculty tutors in person or by reputation.
Some Dulwich Tutors have supported students applying for University in other countries, for example Yale, Harvard, MIT and Princetown, including the US SAT examinations, We have a handful of tutors based internationally at these Universities.
Supporting students in this way helps navigate a highly competitive admissions process that demands exceptional academic ability, a compelling personal testimony, and outstanding performance at interviews. Coaching critical thinking skills and the ability to articulate complex or unorthodox ideas with clarity and confidence, Dulwich Tutors offer personalised support, tailored to your child’s specific subject interests to ensure they are thoroughly prepared to be a confident candidate.
For UCAS, all students complete the all-important personal statement, and may need support communicating their unique voice, or evidencing their skills and passions in an effective manner. Chat GPT or spellcheck are not up to the task of creating a unique, personal and honest account, so each year many students work with Dulwich Tutors to refine their thoughts.
Studying at University level requires advanced study skills, independence and personal motivation. Increasingly, Dulwich Tutors received requests to support, mentor or coach students in their studies, or help with key examinations and extended projects during their University careers. These may not appear in a tutor’s profile, so if you cannot see a suitable tutor here below, do contact us on info@dulwichtutors.com to find the best person to help you.
