Each year, Dulwich Tutors support many students with their study of Economics, as they progress from GCSE Maths or Further Maths through to A level or International Baccalaureate, examinations and beyond.
Some students may need support with GCSE or iGCSE Economics. Although not taught at every school, it introduces elementary economic principles and the skills to analyse data. At this level, students may require help with the building blocks of how markets work, government policies, and international economic issues.
While GCSE Economics can be a challenging subject for students, with the right tutor, a bespoke approach and effort on the part of the student, it's highly possible to achieve strong results. One to one tuition, whether in person or online, promotes a thorough understanding of the material and the ability to apply that knowledge to exam questions.
In practice, many students begin Economics at sixth form level, whether as part of a portfolio of A level subjects, or nested within the IB. Here they will need to build upon their existing strong numeracy skills, so as to analyse both data and graphs, as well as strong English and essay skills in order to explain economic concepts and theories.
Those for whom success in Economics is a prerequisite for University course may seek one-to-one private tuition to help with examination questions that require them to employ theoretical knowledge in practical scenarios as well as in the broader context of topical current affairs.
In our experience, a high proportion of young people studying Economics seek out support from a Dulwich Tutor, and most frequently work online which affords access to expert help, rather than just local help. Because A level and IB move fast and cover a great deal of complex content, many request tuition throughout both years of their course.
Whatever the exam board; AQA, Edexcel, Cambridge (CIE), EDUQAS or IB, our tutors work to develop the analytical and essay skills to support students towards a strong showing in examination. WJEC and CCEA are studied less frequently in the UK, but we may have tutors available who have covered them in the past, or are familiar with them.
Studies show that the typical resultant benefit of working regularly with a tutor is one grade boundary, for example a level 7 or B should become an 8 or A. In our experience, if the student is engaged with tuition, and completes practice homework or revision activity, the impact may be greater.
