Sophie is a warm and encouraging tutor who has over 4 years and 1000 hours of tutoring experience. Having read English Language and Literature at King’s College London, she specialises in tutoring English and preparing students for the 7+ and 11+, having had students gain places at a number of notable independent schools in Surrey including St John’s, Cranleigh, Ewell Castle, St Catherine’s, Tormead, Guildford High School, St Theresa’s and the Royal Grammar School Guildford. She avidly believes that so much of a student’s learning and enjoyment of a subject is related to how confident they feel in it, so she places a lot of emphasis on tailoring tuition to each student’s personality and building their confidence in themselves, as well as in their abilities. She believes that learning should be stimulating, absorbing, creative and focus on a subject’s real-life application. Having always had a very creative nature, Sophie balanced studying with pursuing a career as a young actor, where her work in the theatre and on screen has not only deepened her love and appreciation of texts but also helps her to engage her students creatively by firing up their imaginations.
She spends her free time enjoying yoga, dance and the arts, specifically theatre and film and as an ardent ‘foodie’ can often be found exploring the culinary delights of London; when she has a little extra time on her hands she is a keen traveller. She speaks Spanish, conversational French and is teaching herself a little Italian.
