Profile
Sam is a patient and invested tutor, who specialises in teaching English Literature, English Language and Maths from KS1 to A-Level. Having accrued just over eight years of experience, he has helped a range of students achieve their desired grades and gain entrance to their schools of choice, including St Paul’s Girls’ School, Cheltenham Ladies’ College, Westminster, Alleyn’s and Whitgift.
Sam trained as an actor at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, and then completed an MA with distinction in Creative Writing at the University of East Anglia. He maintains a passion for the arts, especially literature, and relishes the opportunity to engage, investigate and share his interests when teaching; understanding education at its best as a mutually enriching practice.
He adopts a dedicated but open-minded and adaptable approach; tailoring plans for teaching, which best suit his students’ temperaments and abilities, and striving to cultivate a class atmosphere which is relaxed, engaging and allows for a sense of fun.
As a former student, Sam experienced the gear change from comprehensive to private education at a highly competitive secondary school, an experience which has informed a compassion with students who may not have yet realised their potential in a subject, particularly in maths. Well-equipped to devise creative methods of unlocking problematic topics, he has garnered a steady record of tutoring middling to underperforming students, who have gone on to surpass their predicted grades.
