Madeleine studied Japanese at the University of Cambridge, where she graduated with a 2:1 in 2018. As part of her degree she specialised in modern Japanese literature, writing a dissertation on Japan’s second Nobel Laureate for Literature, Oe Kenzaburo, on top of researching literature from minority cultures in Japan. She began tutoring in 2019, and has gained over 500 hours of tuition experience in the subsequent two years. Madeleine has strong experience teaching beginner’s Japanese, but is also in her element teaching English (both language and literature) due to her background as a literature specialist and having studied English to Advanced Higher level (A2 equivalent). In this capacity she has helped children prepare for the 11+, GCSE and A Level exams. She’s happy to help with Maths too, especially in combination with English up to 11+ level.
Additionally, Madeleine is an opera singer-in-training, currently undertaking an MMus in Voice at Trinity Laban Conservatoire. She teaches voice (pop and classical) to students of any age, and is known for being an encouraging and energetic singing teacher who likes seeing students enjoy themselves above anything else. A keen language learner, Madeleine has studied German to B1 level (and so can help additionally with German up to approximately GCSE Level) and is currently learning Korean. Outside of teaching and studying, you can find Madeleine singing in German, Italian, French and sometimes even English in various operatic roles!
