Lucy completed a PGCE in Business Studies at UCL’s Institute of Education in 2015 after a long career in PR for hi-tech businesses, which included running her own company for ten years, and working in the fine art sector, co-founding a social enterprise, Spirited Bodies. She brings her extensive real world experience of business to her teaching of business studies, always aiming to make the subject live for her students. Her original degree in English Literature from Cambridge University reflects her constant fascination in language, communication, literature and creative writing.
She worked as a tutor before and after her PGCE, helping A level English students achieved higher than predicted grades and Cambridge English, education and drama candidates develop the skills they needed to secure places. She has taught English and Business Studies at GCSE and A level for AQA and EdExcel and has recently added iGCSE English and Enterprise. She has extensive experience with BTEC Business and BTEC Business Units in different BTEC courses, such as BTEC Business in Sport. She has worked with several students with a range of issues from dyslexia and dyspraxia to chronic health conditions. She finds that flexible approaches and empowering the students to develop the skills they need for exams in a realistic and pragmatic way builds confidence and the ability to deliver. With a huge enthusiasm for her subjects and her students, Lucy is always looking for new ways to help the students learn and retain information and nail exam technique.
While working as a tutor, Lucy is developing her own online business coaching graduates looking for their first job or interested in PR and communications as a profession. She also works pro bono providing PR services for a local charity helping families in crisis and pursues her interest in the natural world.
