    Profile

Lily is an engaging and dedicated English tutor with five years’ experience working with students from primary to university level. She has been tutoring in London since completing a Masters in English Literature at the University of Oxford, where she also read English Language and Literature, graduating with a Distinction and a First, respectively. Lily draws on her academic background in her tutoring approach, putting into practice the skills she acquired through her own 11+, GCSE, A Level, and university examinations, and tailoring every lesson to the interests, goals, and requirements of each student. Her experiences in theatre, film, poetry, and ghostwriting have also informed her teaching style, as have her interests in music, gardening, baking, travel, and art.

Lily has experience tutoring in-person and online, pushing her students to explore their study material in new and creative ways. Her students have gained places and scholarships at some of the best schools in London (including Whitgift, Alleyn’s, and Harrow), achieved outstanding results in entrance tests (from 7+ to 16+), and excelled in GCSEs, A Levels, and the IB. Lily has also designed courses in ELAT and interview preparation for Oxbridge candidates and worked with higher-level Master’s students and adult learners wishing to expand their understanding of English Literature. At every level, she has tutored students who required broader help with motivation, revision, and study skills, or with English as a second language (particularly with students at international schools or abroad). Helping to boost students’ confidence in these key skills has proved invaluable for subjects far beyond English, enabling students of many ages to feel more secure in their approaches to languages and humanities subjects, and towards exams and assessments generally.

    TESTIMONIAL
Loved her, she was amazing. So engaging. The way she approached the first lesson was wonderful, she spent time getting to know [X]. [Student] actually said afterwards that she wanted her all the time. She even put her homework in her diary to do the next day. She was great!
    TESTIMONIAL
[X] enjoys Lily’s lessons so much. She advises him how to prepare for each lesson in advance so everything goes very smoothly. She is well-prepared, patient and cheers [him] up even if he didn’t do well on some questions. We really appreciate it and would like to continue her lessons.
    TESTIMONIAL
Kobi and Lily were both excellent tutors, really pleasant to work with. My son really enjoyed his sessions with them. Sadly our sessions have come to an end as the 11plus  is finally over, but I would not hesitate to recommend them.  And would love to work with them in the future.
    TESTIMONIAL
[X] has so far enjoyed her session’s with both Jack and Lily. She says they are both really nice, and she feels comfortable learning with them. [X] has given Lily a few ideas on what she would like to be learning about over the next few weeks in English. They started with poetry yesterday. It’s good to know [she] feels comfortable with both tutors, and a great worry lifted knowing she’s not missing out on her education over the next few weeks.
    TESTIMONIAL
[X] is very happy with his tutors, Arthur and Lily. He thinks they are both great. His parents evening reflected that he is doing well, the teachers were very positive and I have passed on to his tutors the areas that he needs to work on.

[X] has mock A levels in a couple of weeks, so we will see how he does then.  He may need more exam practice, I imagine.

I have found both tutors to be very responsive to communications and flexible when necessary, but as [X] is 18, he often arranges changes with them himself.
