Profile
Lily is an engaging and dedicated English tutor with five years’ experience working with students from primary to university level. She has been tutoring in London since completing a Masters in English Literature at the University of Oxford, where she also read English Language and Literature, graduating with a Distinction and a First, respectively. Lily draws on her academic background in her tutoring approach, putting into practice the skills she acquired through her own 11+, GCSE, A Level, and university examinations, and tailoring every lesson to the interests, goals, and requirements of each student. Her experiences in theatre, film, poetry, and ghostwriting have also informed her teaching style, as have her interests in music, gardening, baking, travel, and art.
Lily has experience tutoring in-person and online, pushing her students to explore their study material in new and creative ways. Her students have gained places and scholarships at some of the best schools in London (including Whitgift, Alleyn’s, and Harrow), achieved outstanding results in entrance tests (from 7+ to 16+), and excelled in GCSEs, A Levels, and the IB. Lily has also designed courses in ELAT and interview preparation for Oxbridge candidates and worked with higher-level Master’s students and adult learners wishing to expand their understanding of English Literature. At every level, she has tutored students who required broader help with motivation, revision, and study skills, or with English as a second language (particularly with students at international schools or abroad). Helping to boost students’ confidence in these key skills has proved invaluable for subjects far beyond English, enabling students of many ages to feel more secure in their approaches to languages and humanities subjects, and towards exams and assessments generally.
[X] has mock A levels in a couple of weeks, so we will see how he does then. He may need more exam practice, I imagine.
I have found both tutors to be very responsive to communications and flexible when necessary, but as [X] is 18, he often arranges changes with them himself.
