Lesley is committed to providing the correct conditions and environment for a child to succeed and reach their full potential. She whole heartedly believes in educating the whole child by fostering a love of learning and facilitating independence in their learning. She considers it important to build their self-esteem and confidence so they will become more assured and self-reliant learners.
Lesley is a highly experienced Primary teacher and Head of Literacy at a London Primary school. She has an in depth knowledge of the new curriculum and SATs as well as being experienced in phonics and reading programmes to accelerate progress. Prior to working in education, Lesley worked as an illustrator and employs a creative approach to teaching narrative and story writing. She has recently trained in the Singapore Maths Mastery which is highly effective in developing fluency and deepening understanding of concepts by improving children’s confidence and levels of enjoyment. This approach is equally effective for those children who struggle with maths and for those who want to deepen their understanding.
Outside of working in education, Lesley was previously an illustrator working for clients such as the BBC, RSC, Oxford University Press, London Transport and The Times. More recently she worked for Okido Children’s magazine, writing and illustrating her own story. In addition, she worked as an artist-in-residence at a primary school for 5 years and is able to offer art tuition in techniques, understanding a brief and building a portfolio up to A’Level.
Tailoring her approach to the individual need and employing a range of strategies, Lesley ensures the learning process is enjoyable and effective therefore increasing the child’s desire to succeed.
