James is a full time primary school teacher who grew up in Bath and attended the University of Exeter, obtaining a First Class BSc (Hons) degree with commendation in Conservation Biology and Ecology. After graduating, he spent 3 years working as a consultant ecologist based in Bristol. James then re-trained as a primary school teacher with the Institute of Education (qualifying with ‘outstanding in all areas’) and now works full time as a lead teacher in a primary school based in Battersea with a specialism in the mastery approach to mathematics. In his previous teaching post, James worked alongside a specialist SEN, where he successfully ensured outstanding progress of a number of children with specialist needs.
James has also worked as a professional yachtsman and SCUBA instructor. His professional career in sports, science and education has been varied and international and he believes in drawing upon these experiences to engage children in learning and its application beyond textbooks. He has successfully tutored for 11+ previously and continues to obtain proven success in helping students build a love of learning that has led them to achieve in standardised tests, entrance exams and continuing education.
James was recently promoted to Head of Literacy at Shaftesbury Park School, which was given an award for being in the top 3% of schools in the country for literacy standards.
