Humphrey works as a classical singer, currently completing his studies at the Royal College of Music. He loves being on stage and connecting with people of all ages and backgrounds through music. He regularly performs in London’s popular Sofar Sounds series, reframing classical recitals in more everyday settings, as well as appearing in Oratorio and Opera round the UK. He grew up in Oxford and went on to read Musicology at Caius College, Cambridge, gaining a First and several academic prizes. Humphrey is passionate about learning and teaching and believes there is always a way in to any subject for any child if there is a close relationship between teacher and student. He was inspired by characterful teachers at school who invested their whole personalities into making subjects relevant, engaging, and intrinsically worthwhile.
Humphrey went through Common Entrance 13+ at school and always dreaded the pressure of exams, he had to work to approach things calmly and systematically and discover zeal for less favoured subjects. He empathises with, and is keen to help, any pupils who have similar feelings.
When not singing, Humphrey has a rather geeky Tolkien obsession, and regularly reads obscure unfinished tales. He has yet to learn Elvish. Reading is always a source of pleasure, whatever the subject. His wider interests include History, high fantasy fiction, Musicology, Shakespeare, spiritual enlightenment, the Philosophy of Religion, opera, and sport.
