Profile
Ethan grew up in Edinburgh and was educated at Merchiston Castle School (A-Levels English Literature, History, and Religious Studies) before taking a first-class honours degree from the University of Sheffield in English Language and Literature. He then took an MA with distinction in Twentieth and Twenty-First Century Literature from Durham University, before studying for an MPhil in American Literature at Homerton College Cambridge, where he was a recipient of the Homerton Graduate Charter Award. He plans to begin studying for a PhD in American Literature in October 2023.
Throughout his time at Durham and Cambridge and beyond, he has accumulated extensive experience tutoring privately for a range of abilities, from the 11+ to university admissions, including undergraduate study, and is familiar with all major exam boards for GCSE and A-Level. His main strength resides in tutoring English Language and Literature, and in his tutorials he works with the student to deepen and widen both their interest and expertise in the field of literature. He believes that each student presents a different assortment of teaching requirements, and his approach is to effectively respond and work collaboratively with the student with the aim of achieving a specific set of goals agreed upon by the tutor, student, and student’s parents. He works to instil within every student a constant desire to learn and develop intellectually, as well as succeed in their academic work and examinations.
In his spare time, Ethan writes fiction and for theatre.
