Originally from Madrid, Clara has lived in London for the past twenty-five years and is fluent in Spanish and English. She has experience in teaching in private schools (Westminster School) as well as in state school (City Heights Academy). She is familiar with the needs of Key Stage 3 and 4, as well as A level students from different backgrounds and abilities. Clara believes that as an MFL teacher it is her duty to not only teach students to speak the language but also to help them to understand the culture.
In her lessons, she focuses on the use of the target language and on a variety of teaching techniques in which she aims to incorporate topics of interest to young people. She also encourages students to express themselves in Spanish within their abilities.
Clara works on the premise that children are naturally inquisitive, so she pays special attention to finding out what it is that makes them tick and then personalise their learning accordingly. Through careful guidance, making learning fun and celebrating each success, she aims to help children progress quickly towards reaching their true potential. She believes in flexible approaches and in empowering students to develop the skills they need for exams in a realistic and pragmatic way that builds confidence.
