Bruce graduated from Cambridge with an MA and MSci in Natural Sciences (Chemistry) and after this he completed a DPhil at Oxford in Materials Science focussing on the special properties of surfaces. He also achieved six A levels at grade A (in the years before A* existed) in Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics, Further Mathematics, Government & Politics and General Studies. Furthermore, Bruce has worked in Consultancy, Finance and Politics, and in the past has lived in Switzerland, Italy and Spain. He speaks both Spanish and Italian. While working in Politics he obtained a first class LLB in Law from the Open University.

Bruce has specialised for a number of years in online tutoring of Mathematics and all three Sciences at both GCSE and A level. His educational style is relaxed and patient, and he structures his lessons around asking questions of the student and getting them to think through problems rather than just presenting information. He enjoys working with both high fliers and those struggling in a subject and can easily tailor his lessons to the level of the student. He is a particular specialist in the Edexcel IGCSE Science and Mathematics syllabi, and has worked with students with dyslexia, ADD and ASD.

Recent achievements include tutoring a student with ASD to an A* in his Chemistry A level and a place to read Chemistry at Imperial College, and improving the attainment of a student achieving 6/6 in IGCSE Double Science to a final 8/9 grade.
