Bridget is a qualified teacher having completed a PGCE in Primary Education at the Institute of Education. She has worked for 5 years in London state primary schools and has tutored primary age children with a wide range of achievement, including very gifted children for private school exams, and children requiring support due to additional educational needs. Bridget particularly loves teaching maths, especially to children who have lost confidence or missed vital learning, using structured play, real life examples and physical resources to enable children to grasp concepts they struggle with.
Bridget is a very compassionate teacher who looks for the positive in every learning encounter. She uses coaching techniques to help build self-esteem in children, supporting them to assess their own learning and make the changes needed to achieve outstanding results. She enjoys creating bespoke lessons, setting targets based on unlocking barriers to learning, which help to realise positive outcomes. She is successful due to building strong relationships with the children, and has tutored children into Alleyn’s and Clapham & Streatham.
In her spare time, Bridget loves singing with her local community choir, enjoys swimming and travelling when she can. She is hoping to have her own gap-year when her son makes his own way in the world!
Bridget tutors my two daughters, year 3 and year 5. Bridget finds a brilliant balance between ensuring the lessons are engaging but also keeping the girls on track (my youngest likes to chat!) Bridget’s lessons are always clearly structured and well planned. Bridget doesn’t rely on one textbook or resource – she brings a variety of different tasks each week which really helps to keep the girls engaged.
One thing I really like about her teaching style is that she goes through concepts (e.g. fractions) and makes sure the girls really understand the concept rather than jumping straight to working through questions. This really embeds the fundamental concept and gives a much deeper understanding which equips the girls much better to tackle new or different problems.
Bridget is kind and patient and is very easy to have around! We have missed seeing her face to face during lockdown but the transition to online learning has been smooth and works well.
“We initially contacted Dulwich Tutors as we were keen to offer our 7 year old son some extra support with his education. Bridget has been working with him for almost 2 years now and we’re truly delighted with his progress and in particular with his confidence which has gone from strength to strength. Bridget’s positive and friendly approach has meant that he engages well even at a young age and he always looks forward to his tutorial.”
