Alex is a private tutor with thousands of hours of teaching experience from over the past 6 years. With a first class Masters in Mathematics from the University of Oxford, he specialises in preparing students for entry tests and interviews for top UK schools and universities, from the 7+, 11+ and 13+ level all the way up to sixth form and Oxbridge applications. He also helps students revise strategically and efficiently for GCSEs and A-levels, boosting confidence and filling knowledge gaps (across Edexcel, OCR, AQA and IB exam boards).
Alex has worked with students from around the world, helping them achieve their potential and receive offers from top schools such as Harrow, St Paul’s, Westminster, Winchester, Shrewsbury, Haileybury and King’s College. He has also visited dozens of schools in the UK and France as part of Oxbridge preparation days, mentoring applicants (for maths, physics, engineering and computer science) in every element of their application, from personal statement writing to mock interviews and entrance exam practice.
In 2019, Alex spent a month in Suzhou, China, teaching a class of local 10-year-old students in a summer program which he independently devised and led. The goal was to improve students’ ability and experience in doing problem solving in English at the 11+ level (across maths, English, verbal and nonverbal reasoning), to help boost their potential in applying to secondary schools in the UK, US and Australia. The program was a success, with similar versions planned (pre Covid) to roll out in 2020. Based on this experience, Alex is currently writing a book of tips and tricks for the 11+.
Alex likes to work patiently at a speed that suits each student’s ability. His tutoring style has been described by recent students as “approachable”, “flexible”, “like no other tutor I have had”, “massively improved my confidence and speed”, “a very systematic manner over several weeks, with great patience and effect” and “all of his sessions are personal and challenging”.
