Zak is an intelligent and enthusiastic tutor with a wealth of experience and knowledge about A-Level and GCSE exams, enabling him to deliver each tailored lesson in an engaging and enjoyable way.
Zak is currently studying toward a Masters in Physics at UCL. He was top of his class with A* in Maths and Further Maths and A in Physics, Chemistry and Chinese. He has three years of tutoring experience and he has also helped many A-Level students with their UCAS applications. From subject/university choices and personal statement to confirming choices, he advised them through the whole UCAS application process. Every one of them entered their preferred university.
He has also tutored many students back in China during summer holidays. Many of them have received offers or have already entered Russell group universities. Through his experience Zak has learned a wide variety of teaching methods from which he can draw to best meet the needs of the tutee. He has tutored many students and he has found out the key for them to grasp an idea quickly is to practice problems and develop independent thinking. The process of solving itself, i.e. understating the concept, is much more important than getting a correct answer through memorized method. Once the concept has been understood and absorbed, the method of solving problems becomes much easier.
Zak considers tutoring to be very much an interactive process. He applies three steps in his tutoring method. The first step is to explain difficult topics in textbooks and help his tutee with assigned work from school. The second step is to deliver a custom made course of the exam syllabus, offering much more clarity and depth compared to lessons at school. Finally, he acts as a guide for his tutees to develop independent problem solving skills and learning patterns which maximize their own potential. His tutoring approach evolves during the course of tutorials to make sure that the specific needs of his tutee are met. With these steps, students feel more confident and prepared for exam success!
“My son got a scholarship (we found out today), so we are very grateful for all Emmanuel did. My son really enjoyed the tutorials; they gave him confidence and polished his exam technique.”
Tom Fenton is a marvellous tutor, striking a perfect balance of erudition, encouragement, judicious pressure, kindness and humour. His work with my daughter produced stellar results in the form of three scholarships; I can’t recommend him too highly.
